Originally the chocolate whips were hand made by workers who extruded chocolate from a piping bag onto a board, which generated the original ridged surface. When production was moved from the original Beaverhall Road factory in the late 1970's the manufacturing process changed from being hand made to being hollow moulded by machine. However the walnuts are still placed by hand onto the top of each whip.
